Miracle Recovery After Mum Secretly Gave Her Dying Son Cannabis

A young boy in the United Kingdom has fully recovered after developing two forms of rare and highly aggressive forms of cancer. His mother is now speaking publicly about his torturous struggle with cancer and his remarkable recovery which she credits to cannabis painkillers.

Deryn Blackwell was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of ten years old. Only a year later, he was diagnosed with yet another form of cancer called Langerhans cell sarcoma, an incredibly rare form of cancer which currently only affects five people worldwide. No one on the planet has ever been diagnosed with both of these forms of cancer at the same time before and the doctors working on Deryn’s case were upfront about the fact that the prognosis was incredibly bleak.

Deryn’s physical condition steadily worsened until the point that doctors suggested to the family that the best course going forward was exclusive palliative care. The child was in an extraordinary amount of pain at this time and his family were concerned that the painkillers capable of giving him some relief would dull his faculties during the final weeks of his life. Therefore, they began researching alternative pain therapies that might help their son to live in comfort in the little time he had left.

Deryn’s mother Callie explains that it was at this point that they researched cannabis based painkillers. Despite being vehemently anti-cannabis at the time, Callie said that she had her husband Simon were willing to give it a go, “if it could help my darling boy escape his daily torment, I was willing to try it, ” she said. They asked their doctors about Bedrocan. The doctors said that it might be helpful but that it wasn’t available on the NHS and there had been no clinical trials on children so they could not guarantee how safe it would be.

This forced Deryn’s parents to take matters into their own hands. Simon obtained the cannabis and he and his prepared it using a rice cooker and vegetable glycerine, and a vaporise pen. Callie said that their homemade solution worked wonderfully. "After ten minutes, Deryn said that the pain had decreased a little and he felt more relaxed - the words we had been longing to hear".

Three years after his initial diagnosis, Deryn was admitted into hospice care and was engaged in the painful process of planning his own funeral. Callie explains that during this difficult time, her primary priority was ensuring that her son could die with his faculties intact and so every time he experienced pain she would treat him using their homemade cannabis medicine which was always successful. "Deryn's mouth, fingers, stomach, gums, tongue, hips, knees, legs and back had been constantly painful for as long as I could remember, so this was nothing short of fantastic, ” Callie said.

Shortly after he was admitted to the hospice, the family received some amazing news that they thought that they would never hear – the cancer was in remission and Deryn was no longer terminally ill. Callie has no doubt about what caused this abrupt turnaround in her son’s health. "There was a direct correlation between Deryn having the cannabis tincture and his improved blood counts. Whenever he didn't have it, they dropped. It was enough hard evidence to suggest that cannabis tincture was playing a vital role in his recovery. I hadn't imagined in my wildest dreams that it could have saved Deryn's life."

Clinical trials have shown that cannabis can be used to successfully treat leukaemia as well as various other forms of aggressive cancer including lung cancer and pancreatic cancer.
