Hitler's name was so notorious that throughout history it's one that has evoked much hatred but at the same time has also evoked much curiosity. The last moments of Adolf Hitler had been depicted by those involved in the Russian Red Army as the Nazi leader being found in Berlin having shot himself in the head. His new bride Eva Braun also killing herself using a cyanide capsule.

Their bodies were then burned by the allied forces. This is the story that was made public knowledge over the years, but some found it hard to swallow. After all, Hitler had been bigger than life despite being a hated dictator to most of the world. Some believed he fled and took on a new identity. But now it would seem that someone who had actually been there in Hitler's employ has stepped forward to give an account of the last moments of Adolf Hitler.
Rochus Misch, the last surviving member of the German leader's staff and one of his bodyguards has given an account of the events of Hitler's death in published memoir. The book entitled "Hitler's Last Witness: The Memoirs of Hitler's Bodyguard" depicts those last moments in detail. Misch goes into how Hitler knew that the allied forces were closing in and that surrender of Germany was upon them. But as Misch put it, Hitler wasn't going to allow himself to be killed or captured by the Allie forces. So, Hitler took the situation into his own hands, not only did he plot his suicide but left instructions about how he wanted his remains disposed of as a direct quote from Misch to point out:
"Hitler had already told his adjutant that he did not want his body to be publicly abused as Mussolini's had been and that he wanted his corpse to be burned."
He also went on to talk about the actual incident in detail about what happened after the suicide occurred:
"Everyone in the bunker waited nervously. Then there was some commotion. The study door was opened, and I looked inside. My glance fell first on Eva. She was seated with her legs drawn up, her head inclined towards Hitler. Her shoes were under the sofa. Near her … the dead Hitler. His eyes were open and staring, his head had fallen forward slightly."
This was Rochus Misch account of what happened on that fateful day in 1945. Rochus Misch was arrested by the Soviet Union for his association with Adolf Hitler and served eight years in their prison for war crimes. Eventually, he was freed and went on with his life. He than of course wrote this book detailing many accounts. The book in some ways was considered controversial. Why because early on in the book Misch described Hitler as being a fine man to work for and no brute when he first went to work for him. Not exactly the account many of us would have a man who is considered to be one of the most notoriously hated men in history. Still, there are accounts that at the beginning of his reign as head of Germany Hitler was beneficial to the country and actually seem to want to help the people. Where things went terribly is another story all together.
As for Rochus Misch, he died at the age of 96, having lived a long life. He also lived through much history. Some of the account of which is found in his memoir that is now being republished and for the first time in English.
