No matter how many Instagram followers you have, chances are there will always be a dog with more. Instagram is overflowing with canine celebrities, and many of them aren’t just famous for being cute.

Some are heroes, too—like Ricochet the Golden Retriever, who teaches veterans and people with special needs how to surf. And there’s Lentil, a French Bulldog with a cleft palate who helps kids feel better about their own facial differences. Other Instagram pups use their general cuteness for a good cause, helping their owners raise thousands of dollars for rescue groups and other charities.

As a puppy, this pit bull mix was rescued from death row in Australia. Now, four years later, he’s an animal rescue advocate with more than 170,000 fans on Instagram.
