CERN's New Discovery Was Hiding in Plain Sight

Another discovery in the science world has been made by the sensational machine known to the public as the Large Hadron Collider. LHC, for short, the Large Hadron Collider recently uncovered the existence of five new subatomic particles. The discovery made just this week, is groundbreaking and considered to be a next step forward for science and the world of subatomic physics.

To first understand the magnitude of the discovery, you must also understand how the Large Hadron Collider works. The LHC, also known as Europe’s Giant or The Atom Smasher, takes several molecules or particles and rotates them around an artificial center of gravity. Once they are rotating at high enough speeds, almost at the speed of light, as a matter of fact, they eventually will smash into each other, creating other frictional forces such as the five new subatomic particles just recently discovered this week.

New Subatomic Particles Discovered

The LHC is kept in a large two thousand square foot laboratory and is run by more than one thousand engineers from more than 50 different European countries. The collider is just a part of a large project known as the LHCb. The b in that abbreviation stands for beauty.

The main focus of the project is the search for answers to questions about the creation of the universe. How did we get here? What are the chances that the simulations of the LHC replicate the origination of the universe? These questions, and much more have answers which are heavily sought after. It is only up to further research to find out what exactly the means of the creation of the universe were.

As engineers continue to tinker with the machine and invent new ideas and ways to make it useful, the particles will be further studied by scientists to see just what exactly they mean.
